Oops, this revised
edition has the correct date...
Dear Member,
Where's the snow?? The MSC is looking for someone to run a trip
to Cordova, Alaska, where they stole all of New England's snow.
Perhaps we can sell our shovels and roof rakes to the Cordova
townspeople to help subsidize our transportation there. LOL!!
This month's newsletter contains new info on lessons,
elections, and most importantly, member's nights. If we can't
talk about the abundance of snow here in NE, let's get together at
ski club activities and have fun anyway!!

The Meriden Ski Club
Board of Directors is organizing the Annual Elections
that will be held on March 15, 2012. If you are interested in
chairing the election committee and organizing
the election process, or if you are interested in becoming a
board member and helping this great club become
even greater, please contact Pres. Russ or any board member. The
MSC strives to offer its members fun activities, deep discounts
and great value, and you just might be the one to offer new ideas
and new directions in accomplishing these goals.
The On Snow
Winter Carnival is being held the weekend of March 3 & 4
at Pico & Killington Mountains. The MSC is running a bus on
Saturday March 3rd, and anyone interested in racing for the club
is encouraged to contact the board for information. At this time,
we do not have a coordinator to organize a team. If you are
interested in racing, and can help encourage others to do the
same, please contact Pres. Russ or any board member for
information. The CT Ski Council requires team lists and signed
vouchers in advance, so it is necessary to get the information
now. This has been a well attended event for the MSC in the past
and continues to be very popular among other clubs, so
participation is highly encouraged.

Mt Southington Tickets
are on sale to club members for $20.00 per ticket, a $33
value!! These tickets are for night skiing and can be traded
up for day tickets with an additional charge at the mountain.

Remember, 1 ticket per member, per week, and last year's
vouchers are still good this year!!
A past president
of the Meriden Ski Club and long time member of the AOH, Stanley
Wrublewski, passed away back in December. Stanley's health had
not been good for some time. A service was held last week,
but his family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.

Ski Club is on Facebook!! Join now to
share your experiences and pictures with other club
members. We will be updating Facebook with club activities,

 News
from the 50th Anniversary Committee
The
Meriden Ski Club will be celebrating its 50th year of great skiing
and
camaraderie. The club is
planning a special dinner dance in April along with ideas of
commemorative skiwear and trinkets. If you have any ideas and
would like to participate on the planning committee, please
contact Anthony Santovasi at
skisantovasi@comcast.net. We
want to make this a great celebration, so bring your ideas and
let's make it golden!!!
The 50th Anniversary Committee will
be ordering more club apparel, so see Anthony Santovasi to place
your order!!
Save the Date!!
The MSC is celebrating 50 years at the annual dinner dance to be
held at the Hawthorne Inn on April 28, 2012. So mark
your calendars and watch for announcements. Be there, or be
square!!
Calling all members of days
past!!! We are asking members to dig into the boxes in
their attics or basement and pull out that photo album for
pictures of the MSC activities that you participated in. We will
publish any memories or stories future newsletters. We are also
trying to put together a photo album and scrap book retelling the
history of the Meriden Ski Club.

 Member's
Nights
January 19th - Wine
Tasting - Hosted by Terri Pappagallo
Bring in a bottle of wine, in
a bag or you can cover your label, Members will receive 5
tickets to vote on the favorite wine and wine with the most
votes wins! The Club will provide cheese and
crackers. Please bring an appetizer or dessert. There will
be a "wine theme" raffle, door prizes, and a 50/50
raffle. Looking for volunteers to be servers and
set-up/clean-up.
February 16th - Game Night
with Steamed Cheeseburgers
Hosted by Mike Bowory and
John Moisuk
Mike Bowory will be bringing in a
Wi board and a screen for members to play snow related sports,
and members can also play the left-right game and rummy cube.

to let him know if you are coming for steamed cheeseburgers, so
we know how much food to buy. Looking for volunteers to set-up,
clean-up, etc.

MSC Lesson
Program
Well although it
doesn't feel like winter yet we are all gearing up to hit the
slopes and hoping we get snow soon!! This year Amanda Burris and
Dave Guzzo have joined the ski instruction team and that's GREAT
NEWS!! This enables us to offer FREE lessons to beginner and
intermediate skiers and even give us some time to help the more
advanced skiers just work on their turns as well. We are also
considering offering alternate times other than Tuesday nights
if folks are interested. Please contact me through email if
you are interested in lessons and we can make the necessary
arrangements. The one thing I do ask is that folks contact me by
the Sunday night deadline so that gives time for me to arrange
to have a ski instructor available.
That said, we're
all ready to hit the slopes so spread the word around to all
your friends and let's see if we can keep Amanda, Dave, and I
busy all season.
Also, Let's
welcome Johnny back to the team! Johnny will be offering
snowboard lessons on Wednesday nights and you can can contact
him directly through e-mail.
I know many of you are interested in snowboard lessons so it's
great to have Johnny back!

MSC
Racing  Program
Club Races
The
MSC Annual Race will be held on Feb 5th at Okemo Mtn at
10:00 am. All adults and kids are invited and encouraged to
participate, experienced and inexperienced!! Come and race,
and have fun while honing your turning skills!! It is a Council
Awareness Day and there will be a bus going as well. Or you can
drive up and meet at the Nastar race course. Sign up for the bus
as usual through Kris Mierny. There is no additional charge for
racing, members pay bus and/or lift ticket fees only. This is a
Nastar course so everyone will need to get their Nastar numbers
ready for registration. Go to

register for a Nastar number. Sharon
Mann will
be taking signups at meetings every week until the race, or
email her, with your Nastar number, at
racing@meridenski.com.
Racing Awards will be presented at the Annual
Pizza and Awards Night on Thursday March 22, 2012. This
year, all adult and Jr racing awards will be awarded at the pizza
party (adult awards will not be presented at the dinner dance).
Watch for details and mark your calendar!!
Monday Night
Racing
Monday Night Racing
has begun, and the MSC is looking for adult racers of all ages and
abilities to participate!! This is a great way to improve your
turns and speed, and have fun too!! The cost is $30.00 per week,
which includes lift ticket and racing, and is subsidized by the
MSC at the end of the season (subsidy to be determined). You must
be a member of the MSC to race for our club and will need to
present your membership card at sign up. Sign up for each race
is in the Ready Room starting at 5:30pm, and racing begins at 7:30
pm. Contact Mt Southington at 860-621-8851 after 2:00 pm for
conditions and cancellations.

Editor's note:
Kudos to the members who participated in the races already!!! Keep
up the good work and let's spread the word that this is a fun way
to get on your skis every week. Apres racing is one big pizza and
beer party with other clubs, or you can ski the rest of the night
with family. So come on down and race!!!

Council
Awareness Days
The CSC has
arranged discount skiing at NE resorts, available for all
MSC members in good standing and with a valid CSC sticker
membership card. The entire list of discount days are listed in
our website and all of our buses run on discount days. Check
out the list of dates and be sure to read each mountain's
instructions on purchasing tickets (each is different!!). You
must have a valid 2011-2012 CSC sticker on you MSC membership
card to purchase tickets. Violators to any rules are subject
loss of membership privledges.
