From the Editor....
Dear Member,
We are winding down
our ski season, but the activities are still aplenty. Elections,
budgets, dinners, awards, and yet another weekend of skiing are
all on the schedule, so check them out!!
Once again, the
program running the newsletter is not reflecting the fonts, colors
and layout from the edit mode. My apologies for any
inconveniences, either functional or aestetic, that this may
cause.
Regards, Tanya

President's Letter
What a great
season this has been and it's not over. Our members have been
very active chalking up more miles on skis than ever.
Our club race
at Mount Southington was a big success, thanks to the planning
and organization by co-chairs Sharon Mann and Connie D' Antonio.
They are already thinking of next year and how to do it better.
The just
concluded trip to Stowe, Vermont was just great. We had 14" of
new powder Friday and another 4" overnight Saturday into Sunday
morning. The wine, cheese and pizza party was an outstanding
social gathering. The Golden Eagle Resort was very accommodating
to us. Chairman Ken Conrad has worked very hard on this trip
over the years and always gets us a good deal. He even got
Mother Nature to co-operate with the 70 attendees.
The trip to
Innsbruck, Austria leaves Sat. March 5th and returns Sunday
March 13th under the leadership of Bob Curry. Bob has 45 members
going on this trip and I'm sure everyone, skiers and non skiers
alike, will have a great time.
The Budget
meeting will be Thursday March 10th and the junior racing pizza
party and awards will begin at 7:00 pm.
March 26th is
the annual Okemo Tail Gate party so mark your calendars. The bus
price is $5.00 and you are asked to bring a small accompanying
dish or appetizer, plus your own drinks. This is a great time
for all to top off the ski season for most of us.
Election of
officers is March 31st. We could really use some help here with
candidates offering to serve. This is a great chance to put your
ideas to work for the future of the Meriden Ski Club.
Our annual
awards Dinner Dance will be at the Hawthorne Inn on April 30th.
Anthony has another great party planned. Mark you calendars
again for this event that will culminate the season, fill out
the reservation form and submit it to Anthony or mail it to the
P. O. Box. We also have a once in a lifetime event being planned
to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Meriden Ski Club. This
will be something special, want to help? Contact any officer or
director.
As I close out
my second term as your President, this will be my last
newsletter address. I could not leave office without "Thanking"
all of the officers, directors and event chairmen that made my
two terms successful, enjoyable and very rewarding to me
personally. I also express my "Thanks" to the membership for
allowing me to serve.
The
Meriden Ski Club is in excellent condition regarding finances
and leadership as it enters its 50th year. I wish you all the
best for the future.
~ Marge Hayden, President

Announcements and Other News:
Please mark your calendars for two upcoming meetings,
the Annual Budget Meeting this week, Mar 10th,
and the Annual Election of Officers on Thurs Mar
31st. These are important meetings for both the
club and YOU!! Come and be involved in the administration
of this club and voice your opinions. Both meetings are
held at 7:30 pm at the AOH Hall.
The Annual Budget Meeting will be held on
Thurs March 10 after the Kid's Pizza Party and a brief
regular meeting. This is a time that you can voice your
oppinions or question how the club spends our money. Please
attend and vote to pass the budget!! Be there or be square!
The Annual Election of Officers will be
held on Thurs March 31st. The club counts on this group of
leaders and thinkers to help make this the best club in the
council by providing and promoting activities that involve
the members through skiing, boarding, and social events.
Please take time to particpate in electing the officers, or
by running for an office.
Summer Activities are starting to
formulate. This is a great time to see old ski buddies off
the slopes and meet new friends! So mark your calendars for
the Annual Rockcats Baseball game to be held
on June 24th, chaired by Maggie Manchester, and the
Annual Summer Picnic to be held at the Meriden PBA on
Aug 13, chaired by Linda MaGrath. Past activities have
included a fishing trip, mini-golf tournament, beach party and
go-cart racing. If you are interested in running any of these
activities or if you have a new idea to start a trend, please
contact any member of the board.
Last year we donned our disco getup and danced down the
slopes. We sang the blues with Janis, and boogied with
Electric Light Orchestra. But this year we are looking for a
new theme for our Annual Tailgate Bus Trip in
March. Please submit your ideas to Marie Bock and see what
characters come out to play in the snow!!
Mt Southington Tickets are on sale to club
members for $20.00 per ticket, a $32 value!! These tickets
are for night skiing and can be traded up for day tickets with
an additional charge at the mountain. See Russ Hayden at any
meeting to get your tickets. Remember, 1 ticket per member,
per week.
The
regular meetings for the MSC 2010 - 2011 ski
season run every Thursday night (except holidays) and start at
7:30 pm. Come on down early to sign up for trips and to meet
old and new friends. The AOH bar will be open to all
attendees with discounted prices. Member night socials
will be scheduled throughout the season, so be sure to attend
those fun meetings (no formal meetings on Member's Nights).
Please send pictures of your ski club adventures to
corsecretary@meridenski.com and
they will be published in our next newsletter!! Content and
space permitting.
The Meriden Ski Club is on Facebook!! Join now to
