Anthony SanovasiPresident's Letter

After the very recent chilly mornings the past few weeks, we know that winter is closing in on us-------fast. If the acorns on the ground are any indication, it should be a whooper.

Our social season begins on October 28th with the Open House and Tea Cup Auction.  Bob Fowler spends a lot of time and effort into making this event a big success. There will be representatives from area ski shop and resorts in Vermont, along with a ski waxing demonstration.

Mark your calendars for the Spaghetti Supper on November 18th, the Meathead Film Festival on December 2nd, an annual event at MSC and the Holiday Party on December 16th.  More information will be in future newsletters.

Don Comstock, membership chairman, presented a point of information to the Board of Directors on membership. MSC has members in 7 states, the furthest is California and from 58 towns in CT.  I applaud Don for the excellent job he does with membership and the web site.

Russ Hayden has been in contact with Mount Southington regarding the ticket vouchers.  The mountain has raised their price to $32.00; they will sell them to MSC for $27.00; MSC sill subsidize $7.00 per ticket, final cost to members will be $20.00 for vouchers.

Bob's Chalet in Bristol will hold their annual ski swap at Mount Southington on October 22-23.  Ski Sundown in New Hartford will hold their ski swap on November 5-6-7.  It is an excellent opportunity to purchase new unused equipment and clothing from last year as well as used equipment in good condition.  They accept cash or check---no credit cards.  ATM's are also available at Sundown.

Our Ambassador Robin Guzzo will be at the Open House so you can purchase your tickets for the Snow Ball on November 20th.  Robin has reserved a hospitality room for MSC members to party, so see Robin and support her as our ambassador.

Congratulations to Bob Smith who was awarded Lifetime Membership by the Board of Directors for his long time service and commitment to the Meriden Ski Club.

 ~ Marge Hayden, President

The Meriden Ski Club is now transcontinental!!  As of Oct 5th, we have 265 members from 8 states including: CT, PA, NY, NJ, MA, GA, FL, & CA.  That's just half of our anticipated membership, wonder if we will add another state, or country for that matter, to our mix of members??

Meriden Ski Club Food Share Program

Marge Hayden has organized the second annual Meriden Ski Club Food Share Program.  Members are asked to bring non perishable food items to the weekly meetings beginning Sept. 9th thru November 18th, 2010.

Needed items include: cereals, pasta, canned goods, peanut butter, tuna fish, spaghetti sauces, canned fruits, crackers, tea, instant coffee,  rice, cookies.  Please no glass items.

These items will be delivered to the food bank prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Last year, several hundred dollars worth of food was donated by members to make the initial program a big success.

The club will also be donating its share of the 50/50 raffle ticket proceeds to this great program.  So be sure to purchase your raffle tickets at the regular Thursday night meetings!!

Meriden Ski Club members have been very generous in their donations, as a group or individually, to various charity fund raisers over the years and we can help many less fortunate families have food on their tables.  Thank you in advance for your contributions to this program.
