Anthony SanovasiPresident's Letter

The end of the ski season is fast approaching. For many of us, the tail gate party will be the last hurrah, but there are those hard core skiers who will continue into April. It has been a great year.

Sunday River was a well attended weekend with great conditions. Thanks, Anthony!  Sandy Davis' Park City trip, with skiing at Deer Valley and the Canyons, had perfect weather and excellent skiing. Something for everyone!  Ken Conrad's trip to Stowe, as usual was well attended with Russ celebrating his 71st birthday, and fresh snow to boot!

Our ambassador, Bob Curry, will be hosting our last Member's Night on March 4th. This will be the Cheesecake Contest, so bakers get out your cheesecake recipes, or the one you always wanted to try, and come join us. Who knows, you might even win!

The all important Budget Meeting will be on March 11th. Come and see how your dues are spent on all of our activities. March 25th at 6:30 pm is the Jr. Awards and pizza party, followed by the second most important meeting (after the budget meeting), the Election of Officers.  Come and participate, nominate a friend or volunteer yourself to run for an office or chair an event. The Board of Directors is always looking for new faces and ideas.  Don't be shy!

I would like to applaud all the chairmen and chairwomen who organized all the social functions and trips. These individuals did an excellent job to ensure that you, our members and their families, had a good choice of activities to choose from.

This is a great ski club, but it can get even better with more member participation!!

Regards, Marge

Announcements and Other News:

Tonight is the last Member's Nights for the 2009-2010 season!!  There is no formal meeting, but our Annual Cheesecake Contest will be held.  Ambassador Bob Curry has planned a fun filled evening, so please attend.  Better yet, cook up a cheesecake and enter it in the contest!!  You could win prizes!!

Please mark your calendars for two future meetings.  These are important meetings for both the club and YOU!!  Come and be involved in the administration of this club and voice your opinions.  Budget Meeting: Thurs 3/11/10 and Election of Officers: Thurs 3/25/10.  Both meetings are held at 7:30 pm at the AOH Hall.  Sandy Meyerhofer and Peter Englert are getting married!

The MSC board is working on some great "off the slope" summer activities, so mark you calendars and watch for more information. If you would like to run an "off season" activity, please see any board member and share your ideas!  Here is a sneak preview of activities:

A message from the CT Ski Council regarding Bulk Tickets:  "...the ski resorts do check internet sites to be sure bulk tickets are not being resold outside the membership of the CT Ski Council.  If you cannot use your own tickets, check with your fellow club members.  Please do not sell them to non-members of the CSC...keep in mind the return policies as specified in the bulk ticket order form and policy."  Apparently, someone was promoting bulk tickets on Craig's list, which could result in removal of a club, a member, or the Council from this great program. Or the mountains may opt out of the program altogether if ticket abuse becomes a problem.  The MSC can assist in selling any unused tickets or they can be returned in April according the the return policies listed on the website.  Please go to Bulk Ticket Info regarding these policies.

Mt Southington Night Skiing lift tickets are a great savings!!  Get yours at the next meeting and save!  Member's price is $21 (a $30 value) and they can be traded up for daytime tickets.  See Russ Hayden at any meeting to get your tickets. Remember, 1 ticket per member, per week.  Please note that ticket vouchers are good for next year, they do not expire!  You can save any unused tickets or buy more for next year.  Add your announcement here!

The MSC offers free ski & board instruction to beginners.  The program is headed up by Don Simmons and takes place at Mt Southington.  Check out the website for more information. The mountain now has reduced hours so check with Don about lessons for this season. Note: You must purchase a Mt Southington lift ticket to take a lesson and use the resort's lifts.  See Russ Hayden for discounted tickets.

The Meriden Ski Club is now on Facebook!!  Join now to share your experiences and pictures with other club members.  We will be updating Facebook with club activities, so look there for all the latest info.  And it's linked to our website for quick access to club info.  This is a great interactive tool to keep in touch with the club!  It's FREE!!! Annual Budget Meeting

Thursday March 11, 2010, 7:30 AOH Hall

Ever wonder where your membership dues go?  What is it used for?  How does the club determine the dues?  How is that money distributed back to the membership?  And you have opinions, don't you?  You have ideas, don't you?

Please attend the Annual Budget Meeting to find out the answers to these questions. This meeting is your opportunity to ask questions, give input and suggestions as to how YOUR money is spent.  Dave will thank you!

Please mark your calendars and get down to this important meeting!   Again, its...

On Snow Carnival - This weekend!!

The Connecticut Ski Council sponsors an On Snow Carnival every year and this year we will be participating at Mount Snow this weekend, Mar 5 - 7.  The weekend consists of all kinds of racing and fun activities such as down hill, cross country, snowboard races, volley ball, and tug of war.  It's a great weekend to get together and compete in these activities against other clubs in the CSC.

The Meriden Ski Club has a bus going up Saturday Mar 6 for the day, so whether you're a Skier or Snowboarder, sign-up for racing--it's a lot of fun!  If you've never raced before, try it out it will improve your skiing and riding!  See Marie Block to sign up for the bus.

Lift ticket pricing, Lodging options, and more details about the weekend activities will be posted on our website at www.meridenski.com .  I will be taking signups and completed waivers in the coming weeks.  It's not too late---Please see Sandy Davis now to sign up the racing component of this fun activity!!!

Monday Night Racing  -  Results!!

The Meriden Ski Club participated in a weekly race series sponsored by the CSC and came in 10th place with a total of 7 racers.  All of the 8 weekly races were held at Mount Southington. The racers were split into groups based on their age and gender and only compete against those in their group for points. Every person who completed a run received points for their club.  The time was taken for the best of two runs on the race course.

Fun was had by all who raced, and 10th place was a good finish for our small race team.  Please consider racing next year, it is fun and easy, and you can make it as competitive as you want it to be. You might even find yourself feeling the exhilaration and going for a third run!!!!

You can go to the CSC Racing page & see all the racing results:

We have two first-time fastest member winners!!  Jim Bobbi unseated multi-year winner Ken Conrad and Sandy Meyerhofer was a first-time fastest female.  The fastest junior male and female will be announced at the annual Junior Awards party on March 25.  Pizza and soda will be provided at 7:00, followed by the Awards Ceremony (before the Elections).  Adult awards will be given out at the Dinner Dance on April 24.  See Anthony Santovasi for more information regarding the Dinner Dance.
