Meriden
Ski Club Newsletter
Dear Member,
Welcome back from the holidays!! It snowed, then it melted,
then it iced up and snowed again, then melted. Then it rained,
and then it snowed, then rain again, which froze up the
driveway, then it snowed again. Looking forward to some "snow
again" this week, for a change....
Please check out the bus schedule and trips and plan your ski
adventures. Races are scheduled, the buses are booked, the
apres-ski-beer is chilling, just need to buckle the boots, snap
into the bindings, and off you go!! If you haven't skied yet,
this newsletter should have some ideas for you.
See you on the slopes! ~ Tanya
Note: Deadline for March newsletter is Feb 26, 2009

President's
Letter
The New Year is starting out on a high note, the weather has
been perfect for what we all want to do, ski and board. The
next four months are full of "on slope" activities. Week-end
and week long trips to Sunday River, Stowe, Steamboat and
Aspen are closed out and ready to go. The Sunday bus trips,
under the new direction of Marie Block, are being well
supported by our members and to date have reached or
exceeded the clubs goals. I would be remiss if I did not
thank Karl Skwiot for his decade-plus as chairman of the bus
trips, for his service, and long time dedication to the
Meriden Ski Club. Great job Karl and many thanks!!
Monday night racing at Mount Southington has finally started
after two cancellations for lack of snow. It is on track
now and any member 18 years or older is welcome to
participate. Don't forget the MSC Club Races coming up on
February 22, at Mt Sunapee in New Hampshire. This popular
event, chaired by Sandy Meyerhofer, is open to all members
of all ages. The club buses are running for this event, so
see Sandy for the race and Marie for the ride.
The CSC bulk ticket redemption is now in full swing. I
remind everyone that these tickets are not for sale or
distribution to individuals who are not members of the
Meriden Ski Club or by extension, the CT Ski Council.
Violation of these rules may cause forfeiture of your
remaining tickets and cause you to be ineligible to
participate in the future, as well as risking the club being
expelled from the program. Let's all use these bulk tickets
in the manner intended and preserve the integrity of the
program, for all of us
Enjoy a fantastic and safe season on the slopes!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! ~ Russ

Annual Club Races - Mt Sunapee
Mark your calendar!! Feb 22, 2009 -
and take the bus!!
The Meriden Ski Annual Club Races will be held on Sunday,
February 22, 2009 at Mt. Sunapee. Club members of all ages are
encouraged to participate. This friendly competition will
determine who is the fastest man, woman, junior male and junior
female in the club as well as ranking within age groups. The
race will consist of two runs on the NASTAR course, and your
best of the two times will be used. Awards are given out at the
annual dinner dance for adults and at a special pizza party for
the juniors. I am trying to arrange for an après-ski event at
the Sunapee lodge, and will provide more information as I have
it.
In preparation for this event, please let
me know if you are interested in racing. I will need your
NASTAR number ahead of time. If you do not have a Nastar
number, you can get one free at
http://nastar.com/.
Marie Block will be taking sign-ups for
the bus beginning 1/8/09 at our regular weekly meetings.
Please sign up for the bus early so that we can reserve a
second bus, if needed.
Please contact me with any questions or if you need more
information. Sandy Meyerhofer meyerhofers@yahoo.com

MSC
Race Team
2008
/ 2009 Monday Night Racing series
After two
weather delays the race program officially started
December 29, 2008. The attendance was pretty good
considering the squeeze between Christmas and New
Year. The participants were anxious to get started and
the racing went very well.
The new NASTAR format is quite interesting and may
look complicated at first glance. However, the CSC
and our web master Don Comstock have made the
registration process and waiver acceptance quite
simple. Go to the
CSC web site, click on News, Info &
Events, click on Racing
and a whole new world opens up. There is more
information available than anyone needs to know.
Just pick out what you are interested in, and
browse.
Racing on Monday night is probably something that
has crossed your mind often. Why not give it a try,
even just once, you may get bitten by the racing
bug. It can really be a good time and improve your
skiing and boarding skills by making you more
confident and aggressive. For the cost of a lift
ticket, plus $1.00 race fee, you are good to go.
This is not a lifetime commitment, though I warn you
it might become one.
You can do one race, the entire series, or just the
ones you want. You can even register on line, get
your permanent NASTAR number, race anywhere, and
check your placement nationwide for your category
online. Try it, bet you can't do it just once.
If you would like more information and can't find
the answers on line, please contact me by E-mail at
racing@Meridenski.com.
