Ski Club Newsletter
Dear Member,
What's in the newsletter this month, you ask?
I added more detail for the Western Trips, so please read and
sign up as soon as possible!! I moved the Officer's list to the
bottom since that doesn't change much throughout the year. And
I have been playing with the look of the newsletter, so please
pardon any gaffes. The content should be just as informative as
always! Read on!
Note: Deadline for October newsletter is Oct 30, 2008

President's
Letter
Summer is over and the days are getting shorter and a lot
cooler. Snow has already fallen atop Mt. Mansfield, Vermont,
and the story repeats itself in the great Rocky Mountains
out west.
This coming season holds a lot of promise, possibly
duplicating the excellent ski/board conditions we all
enjoyed in 07/08.
The club calendar has been completed, trips are scheduled,
ski buses are contracted and the social season is fast
approaching. Our Open House is Oct 30th; Spaghetti Dinner
Nov 20th; Meat Heads Film Festival Dec 4th and the Holiday
Party is Dec 18th. By this time hopefully most of us will
already have new snow miles on our boards and looking
forward to the long weekend and week long trips.
Don't forget the Mount Southington ski swap Oct. 18 & 19,
the approaching ski/board and clothing sales at Ski Sundown.
Also please support the fine area ski shops, such as Alpine
House in Wethersfield, Bob's Chalet in Bristol and Suburban
Sport in Berlin. These businesses offer ski club discounts
and have supported the MSC and the ski/board industry for a
long time.
Anticipating a spectacular safe MSC membership year.

Here is a preview of the ski trips that the MSC is running
this year. If you wish to run a trip, please contact any
member of the board for the "how to" and a trip proposal. We
are looking for someone to run a weekend bus trip
as this venue may be popular with rising gas prices.
Click on the links below to see or print details on these
trips. Please sign up now
for Western trips as these trips have early deadlines and
require minimum participants.
Champagne Powder
Steamboat is actually a complete mountain range: Mount
Werner, Sunshine Peak, Storm Peak, Thunderhead Peak,
Pioneer RidgeŽ and Christie Peak. 2,965 acres (1200
hectares) of permitted terrain offer a diversity of trails
for all levels of ability. Mavericks Superpipe is a
freerider's dream. Gladed areas of Pioneer Ridge, Sunshine
and Storm Peak are Steamboat's particular claim to fame,
with legendary Champagne Powder snow in the trees for the
most avid powder hounds. Don't miss this great trip!!

Experience the Power of Four
With four choices and 5,303 acres, decide which mountain fits
your passion. Snowmass, so many runs, so much
variety - cruisers, steeps, glades, off-piste, terrain parks,
superpipe and the longest lift-served vertical rise in the
United States. Rising out of the heart of downtown Aspen and
famous for its steeps, bumps and incredible views, Aspen
Mountain and its double-black and tree runs are fun for
skiers and snowboarders alike. Known as the locals' favorite
mountain, Aspen Highlands features extreme
terrain, groomed cruisers and breathtaking views of the Maroon
Bells. For the ultimate ski/snowboarding experience, hike up and
drop into Highland Bowl. Home of the ESPN Winter X Games through
2010 (for an unprecedented nine consecutive years!),
Buttermilk also remains North America's best family
learning center. While experts frolic in the X Superpipe and
terrain park, the rest of the family can cruise on the wide,
rolling trails. See them for yourself!!
