President's
Letter
The
members of the Meriden Ski Club enjoyed an extremeely
successful 2007/2008 ski and social season. Thanks to the
commitment and dedication of the officers, directors and
committee chairmen, our fiscal year ended on a very high note.
We can look back upon a season that was full of activities,
some new and some old stand-by favorites. Having an abundance
of snow in New England and out West, the entire nation of
skiers certainly had more options than they could exercise.
Now we enter the planning stages for the 2008/2009
Meriden Ski Club ski and social season. This will start in
ernest with the June Board of Directors meeting. As you can
see from the summer activities already scheduled in this
issue, the Directors and chairmen have hit the deck running.
We are always open to input from all of our members and hope
many of you will take the opportunity to voice your
opinions.
I want to thank again, all of the officers,
directors and chairmen for an outstanding job keeping the
Meriden Ski Club strong and vibrant for our members. I also
want to thank all of our members for supporting our
activities and making them so successful for the enjoyment
of all.
Wishing everyone a safe enjoyable summer and looking
forward to seeing everyone at the summer activities and in
the fall at our open house.

2nd Annual Mt. Southington Charity
Golf Tournament
**Note - The Meriden Ski Club has sponsored an
entire hole at the tournament. Your participation is direct
through the tournament and not through the ski club. Please
participate in a great program to promote skiing for the CCMC
children.
Mt. Southington Ski Area is sponsoring a charity golf event at
Southington Country Club on Sunday, July 27th. It is going to be
a fun event, with a lot of great contests, prizes and raffles. The
tourney is going to benefit the CT. Children's Medical Center
Adaptive Ski Program. All the profit from the golf tournament will
be donated to the cause of buying specialized ski equipment for
the CCMC children.
The golf outing will be a shotgun, scramble format, with the first
tee time at "High Noon". There will be 3 first place team prizes,
closest to the pin, closest to the line, many free hole-in-one
offerings, and 50/50 "land on the green" raffles on the par 3's.
Very different contests
are available before and during play. Hot dogs, burgers and chips
are available at any time throughout the day. Soda, water and beer
are complimentary. It will be a lot of fun.
Starting at 6:00 pm we are offering a cash bar and free buffet
dinner at one of the local restaurants (tba) in the area, where we
will give out the awards to the contest winners and offer chances
on many great raffle prizes. The day includes golf, cart, dog,
burger and chips, unlimited soda, water, beer, contests, prizes,
and a full buffet dinner w/ a cash bar. All this (and more) for
only $99 per golfer. If you wish to take part in
the "after-golf" event only, the cost is $40.
The donation to sponsor a hole is $100. Your company (or
personal) name will be prominently displayed on one of the holes
at Southington Country Club throughout play. Names of raffle prize
donors will be announced during the raffle. If you would like to
donate a raffle prize, or make an anonymous donation, that would
also be greatly appreciated.
If
you would like to take part in any way, either as a player,
sponsor or raffle prize donor, contact Mike Cirillo at
203-430-1280. Any help you can give will be greatly
appreciated. |
RECIPE
CORNER
If you went on the Stowe Trip this past season, you enjoyed
sunshine, rain, snow and Marie Block's Toffee Bark. Sunshine,
rain and snow are guaranteed again next year, but to be sure you
experience the bark again, here is the recipe for your
own enjoyment!!
Saltine Toffee Bark
"This recipe is simple and everyone loves it".
Ingredients:
1 large bag of semi sweet morsels
1 cup brown sugar
2 sticks of butter
1 tube saltine crackers
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°
2. Line cookie sheet with foil, fold up edges to form a tray,
spary with Pam
3. Place saltines side by side on foil
4. Melt butter and sugar in microwave until it's very bubbly
5. Stir mixture carefully and pour over crackers
6. Place in oven for approximately 2-4 minutes, until bubbly
7. Remove from oven and drop morsels over crackers. Allow chips
