President's
Letter
HAPPY NEW YEAR! and what a beautiful way to start
off. Snow everywhere, comfortable temperatures for skiing and
boarding, from Mount Southington to Jay Peak. I am told that there
is so much snow at some resorts, some of the lift chairs actually
travel short distances below the surface. Haven't seen these
conditions, this early, in years. Don't miss out on the
opportunity to get your family enjoying the great outdoors.
We have a very ambitious winter/spring program starting with a
club race clinic this Friday Jan 4th at Mount Southington under
the expert direction of race captain Sue Scheibenpflug. The
council Monday night race program kicks off Monday Jan. 7th.
Now we add the MSC free ski / board lessons starting Tues. Jan
8th directed by Brad Platt and his enthusiastic team of ASIA
certified ski & board instructors. Please contact Brad prior to
3:00 pm. the Sunday before your Tuesday lesson so the necessary
instructors can be scheduled to accommodate the various skill
levels. This is a super opportunity to develop elevated skills
and keep our race and safety programs healthy.
Every member should check out our web site on a regular basis.
We have so much going on, with one day bus trip kids programs,
to week-end trips, to On Snow at Okemo Feb. 29th. Sandy
Meyerhofer has secured a house sleeping 25 members at a great
price. Following this, Ken Conrad has his annual trip to Stowe,
Vt. and the Golden Eagle Resort that always sells out. Better
move quick on this one.
How about a Spring Fling? Sandy Davis has put together a very
economical week-end to Sugarbush Resort, staying at the
Garrison, a building really designed for groups, rooms around a
large indoor swimming pool, cooking facilities, ping pong, water
sports, television and tall tails. Those few of our members that
are inclined to libation, I encourage them to BYOB.
The club year is flying by and soon we will be into planning the
2008-2009 season. Election and budget issues are just around the
corner, followed by our annual Dinner Dance meeting. Let's all
enjoy the slopes and most of all stay safe.

Racing delayed due to lack of snow on
race course.....but things are looking Uphill !!
Monday
Night Racing
Begins Monday, January 7, snow
permitting!! This league is
a fun recreational league of adults 18 and older (male & female)
of all age classes. You do not need experience racing, you just
need to be able to turn thru the gates and ski thru the finish.
Our team MSC races for points against all other teams of the
Connecticut Ski Council. Points are given each week as follows
for each age class:
25 points for 1st place
22 for 2nd place
20 for 3rd, etc.
Everyone will receive 2
points for finishing at least 1 run!
The points are accumulated each week for
a series of 8 races. You will accrue individual points but we
also work as a team to reach a goal and potentially a trophy.
The idea is to get alot of racers for the team out on the
mountain each night. So if you are looking for something FUN
to be a part of, join us on any given Monday night and find
out why we are all such happy racers! Hope to see you all out
there.
If you would like to be on my race
update email, please send me your email address to
racing@meridenski.com.
Also, before you go to race the 1st night, please print a
waiver and complete it from the CSC website at
www.skiclub.com. You can
also view all of the age classes on this website and a listing
of all State Races available.
PLEASE CALL MT SOUTHINGTON HOTLINE 860-628-7669 X243 before
heading out on any given night that snow might be
questionable. You can also visit Mt. Southington's or the CSC
website for race updates .
