President's
Letter
Seasons greetings and best wishes to all members of the
Meriden Ski Club family. We are looking forward to a very
happy holiday season.
Already, the northern ski resorts are open for the season
and conditions are excellent. Many of you have started
making turns or are at least planning trips, whether it is
the one day bus trips, awareness days, or week-ends up
north. Don't forget to sign up for our first bus trip to
Stratton on December 14th, Bus fare is just $10.00. Don't
get left behind, it's filling up fast!!
The Monday Night Racing Series starts December 15th, weather
permitting, and the Holiday Party is December 18th, a great
night for our younger members. We are hoping Santa will
visit with us as he is a big hit with the kids, even the
adults have a good time with the jolly old guy.
I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the winter, does all the
skiing and boarding that they dream of, and does it all
safely.
We are really off to a great start!
~ Russ

MSC
Race Team
2008
/ 2009 Monday Night Racing series
Monday Night Racing starts December 15th, weather permitting.
There are a number of changes taking place, including a name
change for the event with online registration to help eleviate
the lines on race night. You may continue to print the CSC state
and the Mount Southington Race waivers on line and fill them out
at your leisure in the warmth and comfort of your own home. The
big news is the addition of the NASTAR racing program giving you
online access to your times and ranking nation wide.
My responsibilities as captain are to, first, insure the
integrity of our membership program and by extension, the
qualifications of the MSC race team. To be certain that anyone
racing for the MSC is a certified member and eligible to
participate in the program. Second, is to administer the MSC
refund program and distribute the refunds to all racers that
earned them, at the conclusion of the race program. Third, is
to make sure that all MSC racers earning CSC awards, receive
them at the annual dinner, at a membership meeting or mail
them if they can not be properly presented.
I would like to bring
more members into the race program. We race as a club
team, but there
are no try outs. Every member, of any age, with the time and
inclination, is encouraged to give it a try. Remember, you
must be a member of the MSC to take part in our racing
programs. There will be no on site membership renewals the
night of any race. However, all properly executed membership
applications submitted with the appropriate dues, received by
the MSC by meeting night of December 11, 2008 will be
processed and membership cards will be available the night of
the first race.
These changes are needed for the good of the Meriden Ski Club
and it's Race Team. I look forward to your co-operation and
understanding to build a race team that will continue to be
respected by all
clubs that compete in the CSC Monday Night Race Program.
~ Russ Hayden, Race Captain

Here is a preview of the ski trips that the MSC is running this
year. If you wish to run a trip, please contact any member of
the board for the "how to" and a trip proposal. We are looking
for someone to run a weekend bus trip as this
venue may be popular with rising gas prices.

trips. Please sign up now
for Western trips as these trips have early deadlines and
require minimum participants.

Werner, Sunshine Peak, Storm Peak, Thunderhead Peak, Pioneer

permitted terrain offer a diversity of trails for all levels
of ability. Mavericks Superpipe is a freerider's dream. Gladed
areas of Pioneer Ridge, Sunshine and Storm Peak are
Steamboat's particular claim to fame, with legendary

and the longest lift-served vertical rise in the United States.
Rising out of the heart of downtown Aspen and famous for its
steeps, bumps and incredible views, Aspen Mountain
and its double-black and tree runs are fun for skiers and
snowboarders alike. Known as the locals' favorite mountain,
Aspen Highlands features extreme terrain, groomed
cruisers and breathtaking views of the Maroon Bells. For the
ultimate ski/snowboarding experience, hike up and drop into
Highland Bowl. Home of the ESPN Winter X Games through 2010 (for
an unprecedented nine consecutive years!), Buttermilk
also remains North America's best family learning center. While
experts frolic in the X Superpipe and terrain park, the rest of
